Just a reminder that National School Counseling Week is next week! There are themed dress downs each day to celebrate the week. We hope everyone participates! The theme for Monday is “Kindness Wins!” – wear something that sends a positive message.
Attention Baseball players not currently playing a winter sport: There will be open gyms for any 9th through 12th grader who is interested in trying out for high school baseball this year. The first two open gyms will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 4 and Thursday, Feb. 6. The open gyms will be held from 3:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. for grades 11-12. The workout for grades 9-10 will be held from 5:15 p.m. – 7 p.m. These workouts will take place at the Washington & Jefferson Elementary Building. Players are asked to use the 4th Street lower entrance only. Please bring a glove and a bat if possible. A coach will be there to let you in. This message is for anyone
not currently playing a winter sport.
Students are reminded that headphones and AirPods are not permitted in classrooms or hallways during the school day. This includes the lunch periods. Headphones and AirPods are to be in lockers. Teachers may give special permission for academic purposes, but this is limited to classrooms only. The policy also includes cell phones.
Seniors: New scholarship applications that have been added to the rack are the International Society for Key Women Educators, the Courage for Kierra Scholarship for students with two or more years in the AAHS music program, as well as First Commonwealth Bank’s Scholarships.
The Angelo Gioiosia Memorial Scholarship is now available for senior males who have participated in Cross Country or Track and Field for two consecutive years.
Attention Seniors interested in agriculture, botany, forestry, floral design, and the like: Stop by the guidance office literature rack to pick up information about scholarships being offered by the Blair Garden Club. Deadline is April 11.
Attention Students and Staff…We need your help! The AAHS Key Club is competing against the Key Club of Hollidaysburg to collect the most cans of soup and money to be donated to the Mountain Lion Backpack Program. February 3 at 6 p.m., the Altoona Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball Teams will be playing a doubleheader against their crosstown rivals, the Hollidaysburg Tigers. Key Clubs will be collecting cans and money as you enter the Hollidaysburg gym. To get a jump on the competition, we will be collecting cans and packages of soup at school in room A208 all this week. Help us fight hunger while beating the Tigers! Go Mountain Lions!

If you answer yes to both of these questions, then be sure to stop by the Guidance office literature rack and look for the Sweat 4 Vets Scholarship Application. Completed forms must be submitted no later than April 1.
